Dysport® is a type of minimally invasive injection known as a neuromodulator. This means it blocks the communication in the nervous system, namely between the brain and the muscles in your face. When those muscles don’t move, the skin folding necessary for the appearance of wrinkles doesn’t either. Dysport® is primarily used to remove glabellar lines, the wrinkles that develop between your eyebrows.
The chemical compound is nearly identical to that of Botox®. It is made from a compound known as botulinum toxin Type A, the same bacterium that causes the notorious disease known as botulism. However, the solution used in your injection has been refined so that it poses no risk of developing that disease.
There are some differences between Dysport® and Botox®, though, such as the amount of dilution. Dysport® is less concentrated, which means it spreads into larger areas. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing since it can be used to treat problems like glabellar lines very effectively.
